Ficus Benjamina Bonsai

Ficus benjamina or "weeping fig tree" is a beautiful evergreen tree with a
dense umbrella-like canopy of pendant branches that gracefully fall to the
ground. Ficus benjamina with adventitious roots both above and below
ground and are well known for spectacular red color fruits. Ficus benjamina
bonsai have a tendency to shed leaves fast, however a few tips about
care and maintenance can help grow a healthy and good-looking bonsai.

Ficus benjamina plants dislike dry and drafty weather conditions and has
tendency to shed leaves; hence they have to be moved to other places that
have good humidity and temperature conditions. Kitchens and warm humid
conservatories besides humidity trays placed below them help create ideal
temperature conditions. Falling leaves indicate lack of light or moisture.
Placing a fluorescent lamp near the bonsai or shifting it near a window helps supply light. The ficus benjamina bonsai produces ethylene, a chemical for protection against loss of moisture leading to fall of green leaves.

Watering of ficus benjamina bonsai and misting of leaves with a spray bottle helps replenish the moisture. However bonsai trees grown in green houses above 20c with misting have a tendency to grow aerial roots, requiring use of humidity trays to maintain the microclimate around plant. Use of water trays may lead to the rotting of roots and damage to the plant. Also it is best to avoid unnecessary change of position of the ficus bonsai as this bonsai figures it out as a shift to a dry wind condition.

Take care of the leaf density and dense foliage of your ficus benjamina
bonsai create a replicate of the tree's native setting making sure the tree
receives ample supply of filtered sun daily. For thinner leaf ficus trees
growing under canopy of other trees, make sure to put the bonsai in a place
that has optimum light and darkness during the day.
